According to statistics, India imported 8.17 million tons of scraps in 2012, soaring by 30.4% year on year.
Also, the country's scrap imports hit new record highs in 2012.
In 2012, the scrap imports from the US totaled 1.305 million tons, increasing by 36.4% and those from the US were at 1.123 million tons, rising by 18.1%, both compared to the figures in a year ago.
Meanwhile, Indian's crude steel output amounted to 76.72 million tons in 2012, up by 4.3% from a year ago.
